This is a package to facilitate users generate transparent gif images from Big5 or GB encoding files. 1). Content of the package. After uncompressing and unpackaging chinse2gif.tar.gz by "gunzip chinse2gif.tar.gz; tar -xvf chinse2gif.tar", you will find the following directories and files: README: This file. file-util: A set of file utilities to process Chinese files. script: Contains ps2gif, which converts postscript files to gif images. giftool: A simple tool to generate transparent gif images. 2script: A typesetting program that generates postscript files from Big5 or GB encoding Chinese files. 2). Environment i). Ghostscript: a package that performs various manipulations to postsript files. Available at ftp.nta.no/pub/fm2html ii).netpbm package: handels various map format. Available at ftp.nta.no/pub/fm2html iii). We have successfully installed the system on Solaris 2.4. iv). hbf Chinese fonts. Available at ftp.ifcss.org and cnd.org 3). Installation i). Enter file-util, giftool, and 2script directories individually to make the target files. 2). Set environment variables according to 2script/README 3). Move the target executable compiled files and script files ( those under scripts directory) to $HOME/bin or the same directory. 4). Some instructions may seem stupid, but we want to keep it simple and make your life as easy as possible. Please configure the system in your own way if you are familiar with the system. 4). Test i).
